Well, I was suspended this week in the Bad Girls Top Designer contest. That means I've been eliminated. I was a little surprised, given that I was very happy with how my layout (See in September 25 post...the sister layout) turned out. Oh well. You can't please everyone. What matters is that you are left with a layout that you and your family will love for years to come. That's what's really important. The talent pool is vast in the Bad Girls contest. Must be horribly difficult to decide who advances week to week.
Time to pursue something new!!!

My Sweet Friend Janette/ Week 3: Bad Girls
My friend, Janette, sent me the sweetest, best scrappy package EVER! She sent the awesome layout that she did for our swap:
Isn't it beautiful? And, Janette, I read the back of it today...I am so touched by your loving message to my girls!!!
Janette also made me a beautiful layout of a picture that she liked of me:
I think it is exquisite!!! The gorgeous stamping, doodling, flowers, and lace trim! I LOVE the Urban Couture paper that she used. She nailed it!!! I can't stop smiling when I think of the time and care that she put into it.
She also made me a beautiful card:
I love it!
And if that weren't enough, Janette sent me some lovely acrylic stamp sets and Prima flowers!
Janette, I am so blessed to have you for a friend. You are so kind and sweet. So funny and a lot of fun. Thank you for everything!!!
Week 3 of Bad Girls:
I just finished my entry for Week 3 of the Top Designer contest over at Bad Girls. It's a six-week contest with an awesome grand prize, worth over $800 and three runner-up prizes! There are about 110 contestents left.
For my third assignment, I chose to focus on shape.
Here is my response to the challenge:
I chose to focus on Shape for this week's homework. I chose the heart to help convey the loving sisterly relationship that my daughters have. The journaling/title communicates the joking and humorous side of their relationship, and, yes, there is bickering as well!
I kept this layout very simple, so as to not detract from the heart and picture. I used lots of color, bling, fun fiber, and metallic cardstock to dress this layout up, without using too many embellishments. TFL. :)
Supplies: Cardstock and Patterned paper: Die Cuts With a View; Fiber: Basic Grey; Rhinestone trim: Junkitz; Letter stickers: Arrow brad: Around the Block; Making Memories; Pen: Signo Uniball.
Wish me luck that I somehow make it on to Week 4!!!

Week 2 of Bad Girls Top Designer Contest
I just finished my entry for Week 2 of the Top Designer contest over at Bad Girls. It's a six-week contest with an awesome grand prize, worth over $800 and three runner-up prizes! There are about 150 contestents left.
The second assignment was a Texture/Dimension challenge.
Here is my response to the challenge:
This was a fun assignment to do. I started off by printing 3 of the same photograph. Layer 1 is the entire photograph; Layer 2 is Samantha's body; Layer 3 is Samantha's face. I don't know that it is easily visible in the photograph, but the picture looks 3-dimensional. For other texture/dimensional elements, I threaded lace through chipboard photo corners; I added tulle beneath velvet flowers; I overlapped a cut out portion of the patterned paper flowers on cardstock over a portion of the flat patterned paper; I put a crackle finish on a chipboard heart; I added rhinestones. Doodled edges on the scalloped cardstock gives a further illusion of dimensionality.
Supplies: Cardstock: Bazzill Basics; Patterned paper: K & Co. and Creative Imaginations; Chipboard: Magistical Memories; Flowers: Queen & Co.; Brads: SEI; Letter stickers: American Crafts and Making Memories; Rhinestones: Heidi Swapp; Acrylic Paint and Crackle Finish: Ranger Industries; Pens: Fiskars and Sakura; Gold paint pen: Krylon; Other: Lace trim.
While I was making this layout, I felt really good about it. Now that I see the other contestests' entrees rolling in, I'm not so sure how this is going to "stack up". We'll keep our fingers crossed and see what happens!!!

A New Contest for Me
Well, after playing that awesome contest over at The Scrapbook Site, I just had to find myself another challenge!!! So I entered the Top Designer contest over at Bad Girls. It's a six-week contest with an awesome grand prize, worth over $800 and three runner-up prizes! With 195 contestents, I'm not expecting too much, but I'll do my best!
The first assignment was a Color Theory challenge. In a nutshell, we had to convey the emotion of our layout through color. Here is my response to the challenge:
I had a lot of fun making this layout! My original intent with this layout was to display it at Express Yourself. I figured it would be a perfect layout for this contest, so I created it for both purposes.
This contest is fun, because it's supposed to take place in a "classroom". We have to sign in on the message board that we were "present" in class. Each week there are suspensions. If you are suspended, you are out of the contest.
Thankfully, I get to move on to the next class, so I'm still in it! Now we have 155 people left.
I can't wait to see what the next class is!
